Plants for Birds

In June 2020, Great Salt Lake Audubon hosted a virtual presentation Landscaping for Bird Gardens. Our presenter was Kim Eden, of Eden’s Garden Design.

Kim discussed the finer points of ecosystem, plant choice and deign for bird gardens in Utah. She also covered topics such as habitat design, best plant choice and some maintenance tips on how to best organize your landscape to attract birds for years to come.

Kimberly Eden owns a landscape design business called Eden’s Garden Design. Kim has a master’s degree in Horticulture from Utah State University and has worked at plant nurseries for four years and also spent one year at Thanksgiving Point installing the Butterfly Garden Conservatory. She has been designing residential gardens from Ogden to Payson, Tooele to Midway and even recently down to Richfield and ST George. Kim loves to design, talk about plants, and create beautiful sustainable landscapes.

As of 2019, we had lost 3 Billion birds in North America since 1970 due to habitat loss, climate change and other man-made threats. Providing birds with good habitat is a great way to help birds survive.
