On the west side of the Oquirrh Mountains south of Tooele, Ophir Canyon is a little-known birding gem that offers a unique combination of Pinyon-Juniper and Montane habitats. Species include: Juniper Titmouse, Bushtit, Pinyon Jay, Cassin’s Finch, Steller’s Jay, Golden Eagle and Clark’s Nutcracker. If we are lucky, we may get a chance to see Northern Pygmy-Owl. Depending on time, we may stop at Stansbury Park on the way home to look for overwintering waterfowl.
Meeting Place: Subway Parking Lot at the International Center near the intersection of Amelia Earhart Dr. and Admiral Byrd Rd.
Contact Max if you are planning to attend.
Difficulty Notes: Easy, Restroom Available, Paved Trail, Level Trail, Benches Available
